Louis-Joseph-Aloys-Stanislaus Martin was born August 22 1823 to parents Pierre and Marie-Anne-Fanie. He had five
siblings: Pierre, who died before his time in a shipwreck, Marie, Louis, Fanny, and Sophie, who died at age nine.
Louis was his parent's favourite child, and they provided meticulously for his education. He entered a course of reading classic
French literature, which was his own decision.
